Robert D. Cates

Owner/Immigration Attorney

 

Mr. Cates is a law graduate of SMU Dedman School of Law admitted to the State Bar of Texas to practice since 2012. Having spent most of his childhood witnessing his Colombian mother and aunt experience various obstacles to their residency, Robert has firsthand knowledge of what a difference a sincere and competent immigration attorney can make.

Robert has numerous years of experience in immigration law in the areas of Removal Defense, Family-based and Employment-based Immigration. Specifically, he has successfully represented thousands of clients for Stateside Provisional Waivers, Waivers of Inadmissibility for misrepresentation, unlawful presence and alien smuggling, Adjustment of Status, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, Temporary Protected Status, benefits under the Nicaraguan and Central American Relief Act (NACARA), Cuban Adjustment Act, benefits for Same-Sex Couples, L-1A Intracompany Transferee visas, and H-1B visas for Specialty Occupation workers to name a few. He has also litigated several cases before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (immigration court) and The Board of Immigration Appeals.  Before opening Cates Law, PLLC, Robert worked for several years in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area for a boutique immigration law firm and later managed the firm's satellite office in Fort Worth. 

Robert is fluent in reading, writing and speaking the Spanish language in the interest of facilitating open communication with clients. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking and travel and spending time with his family.
